Kauto Star and Denman have between them changed the landscape of National Hunt racing. Stablemates side by side at the Somerset yard of trainer Paul Nicholls, they are exactly the same age but with hugely different qualities.

Kauto Star, a handsome bay born in France, has won the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on four consecutive occasions and the Cheltenham Gold Cup twice.  Many believe he is the best steeplechaser since Arkle.

Denman, a tough Irish-bred chestnut, ruthlessly efficient and blessed with great stamina, beat Kauto Star in 2008 into second place in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, a result reversed the next year.  He has also won the Hennessy Gold Cup twice.

The continuing rivalry between them has captured the imagination of millions.  This is the story of their life and times and the drama of their many victories - and occasional spectacular failures.
