The Weekend Walks series is intended for those who are looking for ‘serious’ walks of between ten and fifteen miles that allow them to explore prime walking territory – in this case the magnificent countryside of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The walks, all of which are circular, are grouped in based on a single centre large enough to provide accommodation and other facilities and thus offer a complete itinerary for weekend visitors, who have no need to resort to a car or public transport during their stay. In this case the seven centres (Malham, Horton in Ribblesdale, Ingleton, Hawes, Reeth, Aysgarth and Kettlewell) have been chosen to give walkers the chance to explore the whole area of the National Park with its high moorland and deep river valleys.

The description of each walk includes:

A map based on the Ordnance Survey 1:25 000 Outdoor Leisure series, with the tour highlighted and points of interest and significant waymarks indicated

A complete guide to the tour with information on features of historical, archaeological or landscape interest

Colour photographs of the area through which the route passes

The book also includes a keymap showing the location of the seven centres, an Introduction giving background information on geology, landscape and history of the Dales and a Useful Information section with addresses and telephone numbers of organisations likely to be helpful to the visitor.
